Gnome 1.4 was released today. Tons of new features have been added to the new release and it is suppose to have a more “professional” look and feel to it. One of the nice features touted is the Red Carpet updater. Basically Red Carpet controls updates to your system. The Natilus file manager is also included. If you are running Linux get out to their site and start downloading! Let us know how it works.

Debian isn’t for everyone (before you get to excited)

Introduction

The following document describes a typical install process for Debian Linux. Debian is a free operating system (OS) for your computer. An operating system is the set of basic programs and utilities that make your computer run. Debian uses the Linux kernel (the core of an operating system), but most of the basic OS tools come from the GNU project; hence the name GNU/Linux.

This document is not written at a “beginner” level and is not intended to assist users who want to learn Linux. It is tailored towards a more experienced Linux user who wishes to give Debian a try. The document also covers a lot of material which is not very well documented on the Debian web site. Let’s get started.

I recieved the following email from Darryl Peck, CEO of OutPost.Com. They are an online computer hardware vendor that has been loosing millions of dollars due to there free shipping rates and 24 hour service. Personally, I don’t know why they started it in the first place. Yeah, it is a great idea, but a stupid one as far as business decisions go. Click “Read More” to view the email. If only they would have listened to me sooner.

That sweet smell of plastic, gold, copper, and bunch of Hackers. It’s a sweet smell that I have come to love over the years. If you have never experienced the thrill and joy of a Linux command prompt, sit back and we’ll discover some of the basics of commanding a full blown Linux box all by ourselves. We will also touch on some basic and essential tools that are standard while using the Linux Operating System as well as touch on some concepts that will hopefully help the reader to better understand why things are the way they are.
