Let me step outside while I charge my phone

It is coming and I say about time. Imagine that by simply being in the sun you will be charging your cell phone or PDA. A German lab has come up with just this type of technology to allow users to throw away batteries for good in mobile phones and PDAs. Not a bad idea really. The technology is way to expensive for the mass market (as always) but within a few years who knows. You can read more about the article here.

Last year we posted an article about Indrema and their very cool linux gaming console. Althought the idea was great, call it bad timing. Their site is still up as nothing has happened but they have let all of their employees go. They only had about 50 employees at any one time. They let the remainder of their employees go last week. That is to bad. The idea was good, they should have just given it to someone else who could have done something with it. Good bye Indrema!

NSA is locking down Linux

It looks like the NSA is going to throw some funds at Linux to help tighten up its security. The NSA is interested in a version of Linux that is kept more secure by restraining programs so they have only the bare minimum of privileges required to do their jobs. That would make it harder for attackers to take advantage of “buffer overrun” or “format string” vulnerabilities.
