Stallman Defends the American Way

Recently Microsoft released an article that free software, or software released under the GNU GPL was against the American Way. Of course this is ridiculous, however it is nice to see that Richard Stallman (one of the biggest voices of open source software) stood up with a rebuttle to the foo by Microsoft. Stallman's article can be read here. If you haven't heard what Stallman says about Free Software and Open Source Software, this is a good article that will break you into start hating Microsoft as much as the next guy.

If web servers could talk

If you have ever requested a document that didn't exist on a web page I am sure you have seen an "Error Page", commonly known as a "404 Error". Normally the web server responds with, "Sorry, that page doesn't exist" and leaves it at that. If the web servers were actually smart it could possibly give us matches to what we thought we were trying to find. This would be a nice feature that would be to terribly hard to incorportate into a site. With this in mind, Shikazu sent us a link that is probably the funniest "404" page...

MS Wants To Outlaw Open Source

Slashdot is carrying the ever talked about article about Microsoft stating that open source threatens the American Way. Ok folks, get ready. Here they come. Microsoft FUD at its very best. It is only going to get worse before it gets better people. This type of stuff agravates the heck out of me. If the stupid web sites that post this stuff would stop submitting articles about this type of FUD I would be much happier. But ohhhhhh no! No one will visit their site unless they post a bunch of flamtory articles submitted and written by Microsoft. Microsoft did the...

Latest Mozilla, Not Bad

It has been about 4 months since I tried running Mozilla's latest offering of the open source browser. When I did I have to be honest, I didn't like it. Yeah it was pretty and had some good ideas but I didn't like it. Why, well for starters it was slow as heck!. Pages took forever to render and it crashed. However, today I downloaded the latest version of Mozilla for Linux and I have to say that at first glance I can notice a drastic improvment over this version than the previous one. For one thing when I imported...

Perl vs PHP

It is slowly becoming the classic argument among Unix web developers. Which language is better, Perl or PHP? Having touched way more PHP code than Perl code, I am of course biased. However today I spoke with a die hard advocate of Perl today and he spent about 10 minutes trying to explain to me how fast Perl was, how it could connect to different databases, mod this, mod that, yada yada yada. After hanging up he sent me about 10 different examples of how PHP cannot do the things Perl can do. One of the ones he sent was.......

XFL offers football fans a new twist to the game

Fireworks, cheerleaders, and a WWF theme are just a few of the things that are different about XFL vs NFL. If you didn't tune in Saturday night to the XFL then you missed a real treat. The XFL brings us a few new rules to the game of football. I remember that one of the biggest things to get used to were the new sounds and the new "look". The XFL interviews players right after they make a big play during the game and you can here all of the calls from the line as well as what the coaches...
