What is Ebay thinking?

Posted by Keith Elder | Posted in Internet | Posted on 12-03-2001

Today Ebay and Microsoft announced a partnership in which the two companies are going to merge their technologies together. Basically Ebay is going to use the Microsoft technology to drive its site and Microsoft is going to use Ebay’s marketplace technology and incorporate that into new .Net offerings…………

What does this mean for us? Well, from the looks at it, it seems that Microsoft is trying to take over the services industry. The main question is why? Is their beloved software offerings not bringing in enough revenue? I look at this as Microsoft is preparing themselves to transition the company away from its operating system and try to tackle more of the services area down the road. Could this be a Linux related story? Do they see something down the road we don’t? Are they scared? This raises a lot of questions of which we will never get a straight answer out of Redmond.
