I have been playing with a couple of new apps for quite awhile but thought I would share it with the rest of you. VNC is a an open source package that allows one to display a remote Linux, Windows (and other platforms) to their local workstation. Example, you want get to your desktop at the office but are at home. Simple, start vncserver on the workstation in the office and then run vncviewer on your PC at home. You can then control your PC in the office. This is not a new concept but if you have several hundred dollars I am sure that Symantec won’t mind taking your money for PCAnywhere that only runs on Windows.
Although this package works on both Linux and Windows, Linux is the preferred method of running the application since X-Windows was built to run remote applications anywhere anyway. Although I don’t have enough room here to go into detail about setup, installation, etc. it is something work checking out. Here is a screen shot of me using my PC workstation and then also controlling my laptop’s desktop accross the lan. Oh, and by the way don’t ever run the window manager Enlightenment with VNC, bad things will happen.

In an effort to assist our class reunion coming up, I registered RipleyHigh.Com. This site will be used to coordinate the class reunion of ’90 for Ripley High School as well as future class reunions of Ripley High. I hope to incorporate other ideas into the site instead of reunion material but don’t know which direction I want to take at this time. Two of my classmates, Angie and Donald have been working on the site so I don’t take any of the credit for what is there, just hosting it.

In the true spirit of “Geekism” myself and several of our fellow co-workers are planning on blowing each up tommorrow at the ACI Lan Party. Supposedly Quake 3 Fortress is the game of choice. However, with the recent release of Diablo II, it will be hard to keep the Windows users away from from the non-linux ported game shelf. Hopefully they will be to busy picking themselves up off the floor of the Arena to even think about Diablo! Look out guys, I’m going to practice, Quake anyone?

Mr. HTML (Jeff Hill) and Renie(his wife) along with ZorKa and his wife went to the Dave Mathews Band concert Wednesday. It was a special concert since it was the first concert held at the new Detroit Tiger stadium called Comerica Park (COPA). The stadium is absolutely beautiful and should be with those ticket prices we had to pay. The concert was a great show, weather was great and Jeff found a new drunken friend in the parking lot going back to our car. ZorKa doesn’t play nicely with street people and made that apparently clear to the gentleman.

Today at 8:00 this morning Rut and ZorKa officially launched the fishing tour of the century. Not only did they almost manage to sink the boat with so much gear, they also managed to catch a few fish. No pictures are available because for those of you that are vegitarian we thought we would spare you the details. Anyway, ZorKa landed a big catfish, and Rut managed to snag a large bass as well as both of them landing several nice pan fish. All in All, it was a great trip!
Happy Birthday Rut!
